Olive Garden History

Olive Garden is an Italian themed restaurant operating in North America, as of 2016 they have approximately 844 stores spread across the region. This food chain is owned by the Darden Restaurants Group. They are headquartered in Orange County, FL near Orlando and have an estimated annual revenue of $3.8 billion. Some of the Italian cuisines they offer include pasta, chicken, salads, bread sticks and seafood.

It all started in December 13th, 1982 when Bill Darden opened the first restaurant in his native town of Orlando. Seven years later they had opened around 145 outlets, making Olive the fastest-growing branch of their parent company. Though the eatery was not so popular during its startup, they have since grown to become the largest Italian styled full-service restaurant chain in the US.

Additionally, Olive Garden has a special culinary institute in Italy where chefs from various outlets learn how to prepare classic Italian dishes. Before transferring their skills back to US and other places where they have restaurants. Each year, around a 100 chefs and supervisors from different outlets make a week-long journey to the company’s Culinary Institute of Tuscany, where they get exposed to fine Italian recipes, culture and cooking techniques. The exposure serves as an inspiration for the restaurant’s menu, with some of the ideas they encounter being introduced into food items.

Today, Olive Garden restaurants are evolving with new dishes being included into their list every single day. They also have a rebranded website, revamped logo and are currently remodeling a few outlets with an aim of making every guest feel cherished in an Italian way. For more than 30 years that they’ve been in existence, Olive Garden has dedicated itself towards serving the best of native cuisine. It’s estimated that more than 4 million Americans dine at these outlets every week, most of them being women in their forties and fifties.

  1. Thank you fort the gluten free menu. We always loved OG but after our grandson was diagnosed with celiac disease we could no longer bring
the boy with us to your reastaurant. It was sad for us because he loved the salad and breadsticks and also watching the server grating fresh cheese over his salad and pasta.
