Here is the complete Sonic gluten-free menu.
Sonic may have a ton of gluten-free ingredients, as you can see from the long list below, but they actually don’t have many gluten-free food items. A lot of their sandwich meats and ingredients are gluten-free, but they don’t have a gluten-free bread alternative, so if you want a sandwich here, you might want to bring your own bread.
You can get fries, but they do note that their fried foods are all prepared together, so they may have traces of gluten in them. If you’re allergic to gluten and forgot your bread at home, you might just want to come here for dessert.

Sonic History
Sonic is one of the largest drive-in fast food restaurants in America today, they have more than 2,700 franchises spread across 30 states. The company is well known for its unique menu items such as ‘toaster sandwiches’ and ‘extra-long cheese coneys’, including freshly prepared dishes and carhop service. Sonic is the brainchild of Troy Smith who founded it in 1953 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Their vision was simple, to become the country’s most beloved restaurant brand. Troy Smith Sr. strived for this dream and after more than 60yrs now, Sonic is still a favorite fastfood brand amongst many Americans. The 2000th Sonic drive-in outlet was inaugurated in Oklahoma City in 1999, and two years later the company achieved a milestone for reaching $2 billion in sales. After employing more than 60,000 teenagers in their premises, Sonic was named by Teen People magazine as one of the ‘Top Ten Jobs That Rock’ in 2001.
Soon afterwards Forbes also named them among the ‘200 Best Small Firms in America’ in October 2003, they had held this title for 10 consecutive years. Entrepreneur also named them a top franchising opportunity in the US. In the same year, Sonic also celebrated its 50th anniversary whereby every Oklahoma Township with a population of over 4,000 people had an ‘America’s Drive-In’.
During the turn of the 21st century, Sonic opened their new headquarters at a building near Bricktown channel in downtown Oklahoma City. Currently, the company has more than 3,500 outlets spread across the US. They always inspire employees to deliver one-of-a-kind experience for their customers in all occasions, and this has helped them build a loyal customer base throughout the years.
Having such a dynamic history, the company continues to surge forward while mainly focusing their menu on fresh, ready-to-order meals that cannot be found anywhere else. Their food is unique and this is shown by the more than 3 million customers who make orders from their drive-ins every day.

Summary
Sonic does not have that many options to safely eat gluten-free. They do have a lot of different flavors and toppings for their desserts and a lot of drinks, so if your going there just for that, it could be ok. Unfortunately, they don’t have a gluten-free bread alternative to have with all of their gluten-free sandwich ingredients.
Butterfingers are not gluten-free.
Hey Julia,
Butterfingers are actually gluten-free.
Who needs a gluten-free bun? Ditch the carbs and use a fork. The bacon double cheeseburger is delightful! Yes I order gluten-free. Hardest part is actually having it arrive without a bun. Half the time I have to request a do-over and explain I ordered with NO bun and no lettuce.
Hey Sassafras,
I like your style. I do the same type of thing at In-N-Out. Just order without bun or ask them to wrap it in lettuce.
