The Chipotle restaurant chain was started by Steve Ells in 1993 and was based in Denver, Colorado. It’s a Mexican Grill food joint that mainly specializes in tacos and burritos, though there are other dishes as well. The name Chipotle is derived from traditional Nahuatl culture meaning smoked & dried jalapeno chili pepper.
During its onset, founder Steve Ells and his dad projected that the restaurant would need to sell around 107 burritos a day in order to make a profit. However, after just a single month, they were selling more than 1,000 burritos a day, much more than they had initially anticipated.
For all the years that they’ve been in existence, the company has dedicated itself to creating exceptional dining experiences for customers. This has been done through using high-quality raw ingredients, modern cooking techniques and Chipotle’s unique interior design that always attracts customers. On their site, they claim to have combined the realm of quick-service restaurants with features of fine dining.
Most of the food available is prepared within the restaurants and not outside. However, there are certain exceptions such as beans and carnitas which are made at a single kitchen in Chicago, IL. Even so, none of the eateries have microwave ovens, freezers or can openers. Apart from tacos and burritos, the menu also consists of salads and bowls, though the price of each dish is dependent on the choice of main course meat that one prefers with the available options being chicken, barbacoa, steak, tofu ‘sofritas’ and pork carnitas which are only found in select stores. Most other additional toppings are provided free of charge such as beans, rice, sour cream, salsa, cheese, and lettuce.
Chipotle is currently listed on the NY Stock Exchange under the moniker CMG, those who want to buy shares can do so at their own free will. The company’s motto is to show that food served fast doesn’t necessarily have to mean a ‘fast food’ experience.
