Rockstar History

Rockstar is a flavored energy drink that was created in 2001. It’s available in more than 20 different flavors that are sold at grocery and convenience stores across 30 countries. The company is located in Las Vegas, Nevada and has an overall market share of 14% in the United States. Rockstar is commonly consumed by those who have active lifestyles, such as athletes and stage performers. The brand sponsors various sports and entertainment events across the globe including Motor Sports, Live Music, and Action Sports.

The product’s founder is Russell Weiner, the son of popular radio show host Michael Savage. Soon after its launch, Rockstar grew to become one of the fastest expanding energy drink brands in America. The manufacturers claim its ingredients are scientifically designed to speed up the recovery process of those leading active and demanding lifestyles, from rock stars to athletes. Moreover, the brand sought to carve a niche for itself in the market by using a 16-ounce can size instead of the 8-ounce can that’s commonly used by other brands. It also promoted itself as twice the volume of competitor cans for the same cost.

Rockstar cans are famous for their bright unique colors. The different flavors available can be identified by the shade of the package. For instance, Zero Carb is blue, PerfectBerry is pink and Recovery Lemonade is yellow. While initially, their official distributors were The Coca-Cola Company, they switched over to PepsiCo in the summer of 2009.

In the United States, Rockstar products can be put into two categories depending on their caffeine content. There’s the 15mg per ounce model and 10mg per ounce for those who want less caffeine in their drink. Besides caffeine, the product also contains sugar and an assortment of other exotic compounds such as panax ginseng, guarana seed, milk thistle extract, and ginkgo biloba. The beverage also includes 1000mg of taurine. While Russel Weiner still acts as CEO of his company, he’s closely assisted by Janet Weiner who is the Chief Financial Officer.
