Quizno’s History

Quizno’s is a popular fast food restaurant chain with their headquarters located in Denver, Colorado. The company specializes in toasted sub sandwiches. Quizno’s was developed in 1981 by Jimmy Lambatos who later sold his shares to Richard and Rick Schaden in 1991. At the time of opening, Lambatos was already a seasoned cook, having worked as a top chef for Colorado Mine Company Steakhouse.

He established Quizno’s together with his business partner Todd Disner. The first restaurant was located at the junction of Grant and 13th Street in the neighborhood of Capitol Hill. It was during this period that the restaurant’s special baguette-style bread, recipes and special dressings were invented.

By 1997, Quiznos had already become the number three sub sandwich franchise in the world, with 278 locations spread across the United States and Puerto Rico. A year later, the company acquired master franchise rights in Canada and in the United Kingdom in 1999. At Quizno’s, their goal is to provide the best service possible for customers, staff and the franchisees. Respect and acknowledgment of each individual’s contribution is what sets the company apart from others.

In addition, the company is known for its uncompromising quality in terms of food sourcing and preparation. They also use a variety of ingredients such as all natural cheeses, customized sauces, butcher quality meats and toasted artisan bread. As of 2013, the restaurant had more than 1,500 domestic locations and 600 international locations as well.

However, the latest count of 2015 shows that the restaurant has less than 1,000 locations remaining in the United States. Though there are still plans to expand further into other territories such as Europe, the Middle East, South America and Central America. There are also arrangements to move into Russia, where Quizno’s is looking to open 500 locations in the next few years. One of the company’s guiding principles is never to compromise on quality, health and safety standards and they’ve managed to keep their promise.

Summary

Quizno’s doesn’t offer much when it comes to eating gluten-free. We wish they had an alternative bread option to make a sandwich. For now, only the salads are safe, but they do have a lot of ingredients to pile on!
