Red Lobster Gluten-Free Menu 2024

Here is the complete Red Lobster gluten-free menu.

Red Lobster has a lot of gluten-free options if your looking for a place to go for seafood. They have a large menu with a lot of items that don’t contain gluten.

Just be aware that they do say that some cross contamination is possible, and while a lot of their food doesn’t contain gluten, they don’t claim that it necessarily meets the definition of gluten-free. Just make sure to notify your server if you have any special dietary needs.

Red Lobster History

Red Lobster is a successful restaurant chain that operates around 700 locations in the United States. The company is the brainchild of Bill Darden who opened the first location in 1968 in the landlocked area of Lakeland, Florida. Two years later, they received financial backing from General Mills and went on to open multiple locations across the country from coast to coast.

At the restaurant’s inception, Darden was passionate about making delicious, top-quality seafood that was served affordably and made available to everyone, including those who lived far away from coastal areas. The first Red Lobster location proved to be a huge success, so much so that Darden and his colleagues had to work full shifts to achieve their objective of serving customers within 10 minutes after placing their orders.

By the 1970’s, there were 3 restaurants operating in central Florida, with 2 more locations under construction. Despite the lobster name, all of these restaurants specialized in fried fish dishes and hush puppies that were hugely popular with the southerners. They also averaged about $800,000 annually in sales during this period.

When General Mills acquired Red Lobster some years later, they embarked on a massive expansion and upgrade program that saw the company become a modern model of corporate efficiency. Nowadays, the restaurant has more than 100 seafood items on its menu which are served every day to customers.

To supply their restaurants, they buy around 58 million pounds of seafood each year and also comb the world’s oceans to find novelties that guests really like. Some of these rare delicacies include popcorn shrimp that is caught off the Brazilian coast, whitefish from New Zealand and slipper lobster from Thailand. American seafood is also available with options ranging from fresh Alaskan salmon to Maine flounder and Florida stone crab. This array of tasty seafood has been drawing in new customers to the restaurant at a phenomenal rate. Most of them are interested in the unique food that cannot be found anywhere else apart from Red Lobster.

Summary

Red Lobster does have a lot of food that is technically gluten-free. The only reason we aren’t scoring them higher is because they don’t make an effort to ensure that they prepare food specifically for those who are allergic to gluten and need to avoid cross contamination from shared preparation. However, if you’re just trying to avoid gluten, this could be a great place to try for some seafood.
