Saladworks History

Saladworks is a fast casual restaurant chain that specializes in ready-to-order salads, wraps, sandwiches and soups. They promote their menu as a healthier alternative to other fast food restaurants. Currently, the company operates around 110 restaurants spread across 15 states and international locations as well. The company began franchising in 2001 and by 2007, they already had 88 locations in eight American states including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida and Illinois. Saladworks opened their first 15 Singapore locations in 2012 with plans to add 70 more restaurants in the future in other locations.

The company is the number one salad franchise in America and is still dedicated to giving customers quality food and service. They continue implementing their Multiple Unit Development approach to expansion while mainly focusing on growth in metropolitan areas throughout the United States.

The Saladworks story began in 1986 when John Scardapane pitched his first concept restaurant to executives of the Cherry Hill Mall. Their response was that a salad-only business would never work, with the executives prodding him further to add sandwiches to his menu. However, when the young company outsold the mall’s main hamburger and pizza chains in just one year of operation, the sandwich idea was quickly dropped and the nation’s first salad-only franchise was formed.

The restaurant offers customers the opportunity to create fresh custom salads which are usually prepared on site by Saladworks’ own staff. There are more than 50 signature dishes to choose from, including the Fire Roasted Cabo Jack and Buffalo Bleu which have reduced fat content averaging less than 300 calories. Every ingredient is cut fresh daily from the specific locations across the country which ensures only the highest possible standards of quality and freshness. Customers can also choose from a variety of salad dressings that are available such as Royal Caesar and Zesty Green Goddess. Furthermore, they offer various complimentary menu items like fusion sandwiches and proprietary broths.

Summary

Saladworks is of course known for their huge selection of salads and lots of ways to customize them. Pretty much all of their ingredients are gluten-free which his awesome, and they note the few things to avoid. We have seen that they offer a selection of sandwiches and wraps, but haven’t seen anything about their being gluten-free options there, which is a bummer. But the main event here is the salads, and there is hardly anything off limits here for those looking for a gluten-free meal.

  1. I just wanted to update that the glazed pecans are no longer listed as gluten-free. I only found this out after eating them all summer and being sick. Their online menu now lists gluten as an ingredient.

  2. So I just had a few bites of the farmhouse salad. I saw that it was listed as gluten free on the site. But now I just read that the pecans are not. I have celiacs and I’m so afraid that I’m going to have a reaction. Are they gluten free or not?
